Spin relaxation mechanism in graphene: resonant scattering by magnetic impurities.
We propose that the observed small (100 ps) spin relaxation time in graphene is due to resonant scattering by local magnetic moments. At resonances, magnetic moments behave as spin hot spots: the spin-flip scattering rates are as large as the spin-conserving ones, as long as the exchange interaction is greater than the resonance width. Smearing of the resonance peaks by the presence of electron...
متن کاملElectron energy relaxation in the presence of magnetic impurities.
We study inelastic electron-electron scattering mediated by the exchange interaction of electrons with magnetic impurities and find the kernel of the corresponding two-particle collision integral. In a wide region of parameters, the kernel K is proportional to the inverse square of the transferred energy, K proportional to J4/E2. The exchange constant J is renormalized due to the Kondo effect. ...
متن کاملElectron energy and phase relaxation on magnetic impurities
We discuss the effect of magnetic impurities on the inelastic scattering and dephasing of electrons. Magnetic impurities mediate the energy exchange between electrons. This mechanism is especially effective at small energy transfers E in the absence of Zeeman splitting, when the two-particle collision integral in the electron kinetic equation has a kernel K ∝ 1/E in a broad energy range. In a m...
متن کاملNuclear spin relaxation and correlated diffusion of impurities
From NMR line width experiments on the diffusion of Naf and Li+ ions in AgBr activation enthalpies of h(Naf) = (1.21 f 0.05) eV and h(Lif) = (0.88 f 0.04) eV are deduced for NMR correlation times. Correlation effects in impurity diffusion are inferred from a comparison of the NMR data to results from conductivity and tracer diffusion. Naf ions are found to perform an almost perfect random walk....
متن کاملInteraction of oxygen with chromium deposited on Al2O3/NiAl(1 1 0)
We have investigated the growth and reactivity of chromium layers deposited onto a thin alumina film at room temperature and at 570 K. The interaction between Cr and the Al2O3/NiAl(1 1 0) surface leads to partial oxidation to Cr2þ and Cr3þ species. Complete oxidation to Cr3þ was achieved using moderate O2 doses at room temperature in vacuum. Cr has also been deposited in an O2 background pressu...
